Each year, Fashion Revolution Philippines brings together fashion designers, experts, and enthusiasts for a week-long gathering of talks, shows, and exhibits to raise public awareness about pressing issues in the global fashion industry. And this year, they’re going virtual.

With the theme “Rights, Relationships, and Revolution", Fashion Revolution Week 2021 aims to tackle the relationship between people, clothes, fashion supply chains, and nature, and the growing need for changes in the fashion industry. Happening from April 19 to 25, this year’s lineup includes a series of talks and workshops, an open debate, and a fashion show that will be available for public viewing through Zoom and Facebook Live.

The week-long activities are hosted by Fashion Revolution, a global not-for-profit movement that campaigns for more ethical and sustainable practices in the fashion industry.

Established as a direct response to the Rana Plaza factory collapse in Dhaka, Bangladesh in 2013, Fashion Revolution now works with teams in over 100 countries around the world, including the Philippines. Fashion Revolution Week has also been held globally every April since then, to commemorate the disaster.

Today, textile and garment industry workers still struggle with low wages, excessive working hours, and unsafe working conditions. The fashion industry is also reported to be responsible for 10 percent of annual global carbon emissions, more than all international flights and maritime shipping combined in 2019.

Recognizing these issues, Fashion Revolution calls for greater transparency and sustainable practices, from manufacturing to consumption, to create a better future for fashion.

People around the world can participate in Fashion Revolution Week online using the hashtags #WhoMadeMyClothes, #WhoMadeMyFabric, and #WhatsInMyClothes. Visit their website for more details.
